Mecca or Umm al-Qura is an Arab Islamic city in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,
It is the city that witnessed the birth of the most noble creation, the Prophet Muhammad – may God bless him and grant him peace – and that was in the year of the elephant (571 AD),
Note that it is the largest mosque in Islam and it is the Sacred Mosque that houses the Muslim Qiblah (the Holy Kaaba),
Every year millions of Muslims come to it. To perform Umrah and Hajj .

Mecca location

Makkah Al-Mukarramah is located in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and its astronomical position is defined between latitude 21.43 degrees and longitude 39.83 degrees.
It rises 333 meters above sea level, and has a population of 1323624 people.
Makkah is located on the western side of the Arabian Peninsula, where it lies in a long narrow valley, which is one of the valleys of the Sarat Mountains.
It is located in the Tihama coastal plain, which extends along the coast of the Red Sea.
That is, from the Gulf of Aqaba in the far north to Bab al-Mandab in the south.

The climate of Mecca

The geographical location of Makkah, and its low elevation above sea level, play an important role in its dry and hot climate.

The most important landmark in Mecca


The holy city of Makkah includes many religious and sacred monuments, the most important of these landmarks:

  • The Grand Mosque: It is the greatest mosque in Islam, and is located in the center of Medina.
  • The Holy Kaaba: It is located in the middle of the Grand Mosque, and it takes the form of a square, high room, covered with a garment of black silk, and it is considered the holiest spot on the face of the earth, in addition to it being the qiblah of Muslims in their prayers, and the first house set for people.
  • Well of Zamzam: It is located 20 meters from the Holy Kaaba.
    Mount Arafat: It is located in the eastern part of Makkah, 20 km from the city center.
  • Cave of Hira: It is located on the Mountain of Light located in the eastern part of Makkah, 4 km from the Holy Mosque, and it is the cave in which the revelation was revealed to the Prophet – may God bless him and grant him peace.
